About Mary

I love photographs and think you can never have too many – though maybe my long-suffering husband would disagree when I linger on a walk or take photographs of his tea before he’s allowed to eat it!

Seriously though, they’re the first pages I turn to when I’m reading an autobiography and I particularly love looking through old photos and reminiscing about days gone by. There’s definitely something special about a photograph, especially a printed one.

I’ve been taking photos since I was a child, when my grandparents gave me their old camera. Most of those photos came out blurry though as the shutter button was too hard for my little fingers to press! Years and years of practice and learning have led me to where I am today – running my own business doing something that I really enjoy and (hopefully!) brings joy to others too.
I live with my husband and our two children just outside Durham City. I grew up in a small village in the Yorkshire Dales but came to university in Durham and never really left. Although there’s still a little bit of my heart in the Yorkshire Dales, I love that beautiful countryside, stunning beaches and city life are all so easily accessible in the North East.
I’m definitely a country girl at heart and love being outdoors. I spend as much free time as I can riding my horse around the Durham Valleys. I particularly love the Northumberland coastline and will take any opportunity for a day out or holiday there. Of course, my camera is never far away to make the most of the gorgeous locations.
I’m a bit of a Foodie too, so finding something tasty to eat makes a day out even better. I also love cooking and baking and enjoy browsing recipe books and online, looking for new recipes to try. Over recent years, I’ve realised that it’s the images I’m really drawn to and that I use them for photography inspiration as much as food inspiration.
Prior to having my children, I was a primary school teacher. I loved working with the children but, for a number of reasons, I decided it was time to try something new and photography was the obvious choice.
I’m fully insured so you can rest assured you’re in safe hands.
I appreciate that selecting a photographer is a very personal choice. If you think that I might be the right person for you or if you have any other questions, please get in touch and we can have a chat.
