Family Photography

As a mum myself, I appreciate how quickly children grow up and know how important it is to capture those precious memories of your family, no matter how big or small.

My style is relaxed and informal.

The best photos happen when everyone feels comfortable.  So before the shoot we’ll have a chat and come up with some ideas to help naturally capture what your family is all about. We’ll play and have fun and at the end you’ll have beautiful family photos to display at home or share with relatives.

As well as photographing your children on their own or with siblings, I also like to encourage adults to get into the frame too.

I’ll never push you into something you’re not comfortable with but so often we mums (or dads) hide behind the lens and just aren’t present in the photographic history of our family.

It’s something I’ve been trying to rectify in my personal photos too.

Selfies certainly have their time and place but it’s also nice to be in some “proper” photos.

As well as discussing locations, I can advise you on outfits, if you wish, or maybe your little one has a fancy dress outfit they’d like to wear.

I can come to your home or we can head out and about.  I’m based in Durham but can travel across the North East region.  The location doesn’t need to be anywhere fancy just somewhere you all feel comfortable.

Having spent years photographing my own children, I’m also adept at finding the angles that minimise any clutter.  Though sometimes all the paraphernalia of family life can add to the story.

Before my children were born, I worked as a primary school teacher so have plenty of experience of working with all types of children.

Flexibility and adaptability are key skills in both teaching and family photography.  If your children aren’t quite feeling it, we can have a break or try a different approach.  We’ll keep the session fun and low key so everyone enjoys the experience.

After the shoot, I’ll edit the photos to enhance the image. I tweak colours and lighting and remove any distracting elements but I don’t make any major changes to how anyone looks. You’ll then get access to a private gallery to review the photos and decide which ones you’d like to keep.

Investment

The session fee is paid in advance to secure your booking and includes:

  • Pre shoot consultation (via Zoom, or in person if you’re nearby)
  • Full shoot planning
  • About 1-1.5 hours of shooting time – give or take a bit of time for everyone to relax in front of the camera
  • A similar amount of editing time as shooting time (I’m all about attention to detail)
  • Travel time of around an hour’s round trip. I’m happy to travel further afield, though there will be some additional cost for this.
  • A framed 8×6″ print and digital copy of your favourite image from the shoot. If you’re struggling to narrow it down, I also offer packages to purchase additional images or can provide you with a quote for bespoke wall art.
  • Option to reschedule due to illness or bad weather

Session fee –  £80 midweek or £100 weekends

Additional images – 5 digitals £70, 10 digitals £100, all digital images £200

Please contact me to discuss prices for additional prints or wall art.

We had a lovely time with Mary during the shoot.

We had a lovely time with Mary during the shoot.

She was excellent at keeping our four year old happy and engaged, so much so that she didn’t want our time together to end.

The photos are fantastic, just what we wanted and it was all very affordable. Thanks so much.
