Why Bluebells Make the Dreamiest Backdrop for Family Mini Photoshoots
Every year, for just a few short weeks in spring, something magical happens in our local woodlands. A quiet transformation takes place as carpets of bluebells burst into bloom, turning the forest floor into a sea of soft purples and blues. It’s one of my absolute favourite times to pick up my camera and makes a stunning backdrop for Family Mini Photoshoots, right here in Durham.
Not only do bluebells look beautiful, but if you’ve ever walked through a bluebell wood, you’ll know they smell incredible too. There’s this fresh, sweet scent in the air that’s hard to describe – but once you’ve experienced it, you don’t forget it. Combine that with the way the sunlight filters through the trees, and it’s the perfect setting for natural, relaxed portraits.
Why Bluebell Photoshoots are so special
Bluebell season is fleeting – usually just two or three weeks – which means there’s a small window to make the most of it. I think that’s part of what makes these shoots feel so magical. They capture a moment that doesn’t last long, which is a bit like childhood really!
Who are they for?
Whether it’s your little ones racing down a woodland path, your dog bounding through the flowers, or a quiet moment between you and your partner, bluebell mini photoshoots are all about capturing connection and joy in a naturally beautiful setting.
Where and when?
This year’s Bluebell Mini Shoots will take place in a peaceful woodland near Durham. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the flowers and weather, but sessions are likely to take place in early May.
Each shoot is short and sweet – perfect for busy families (or energetic dogs!). You’ll come away with a small collection of relaxed, natural images that celebrate the season and the people (or pets!) you love most.
